Obi Ugochukwu, Esq., E.A.

Obi Ugochukwu, Esq., E.A., serves as Lead Attorney and Supervising Tax Attorney at Republic Tax Relief. His professional background spans military service, law, taxation, finance, and taxpayer representation. Before entering the legal profession, Obi served in the United States US Army, an experience that helped shape the discipline, focus, persistence, and service-oriented approach he continues to bring to his work today.

After leaving the US Army, Obi began his legal career in Los Angeles in 2004. Starting as a law clerk, he progressed into the practice of law and developed a career focused on tax matters, taxpayer representation, financial analysis, compliance, and tax resolution. Over the years, he has worked with individuals and businesses facing a wide range of federal and state tax problems, giving him a practical understanding of both the legal and financial issues that often determine how a tax case should be approached.

Throughout his career, Obi has represented clients in matters involving the Internal Revenue Service, state taxing authorities, and the U.S. Department of Justice Tax Division. His experience includes IRS tax resolution, audit defense, tax compliance, financial analysis, case management, appellate matters, debt settlement negotiations, and state taxation issues. He is an Attorney and Counselor at Law and a Counselor of the Supreme Court of the State of New Mexico. He is also an Enrolled Agent authorized to represent taxpayers before the IRS.

Obi has developed a strong professional reputation for his work with IRS Auditors, Revenue Officers, Appeals Officers, and Offer in Compromise examiners. He is known for his tenacity, preparation, and ability to analyze tax law and apply it strategically to the facts of a client’s case. His approach is not simply to accept an initial position or proposed outcome, but to carefully examine the applicable law, financial information, procedural history, and available options to determine whether a stronger position can be presented on the client’s behalf.

Over the years, Obi’s distinctive name has become closely associated with his reputation as a determined and effective negotiator. His familiarity with IRS procedures and his ability to communicate clearly with government personnel allow him to advocate firmly while remaining focused on the legal and financial realities of each case. He approaches negotiations with the belief that strong representation requires preparation, persistence, and a thorough understanding of the rules governing the matter.

At Republic Tax Relief, Obi plays an active leadership role in both the legal and service functions of the organization. He helps supervise the legal team and service teams, reviews complex matters, assists with case strategy, supports negotiations, and works to ensure cases are handled carefully and consistently. His approach combines legal analysis, tax knowledge, financial review, and practical case management, with close attention to each client’s individual circumstances.

Obi believes effective representation begins with understanding the person behind the tax problem. Tax matters can be stressful, personal, and financially disruptive, and he believes clients deserve clear communication, thoughtful guidance, and serious attention from the professionals handling their case.

His background reflects a longstanding commitment to service, discipline, and professional growth. His experience across military service, legal practice, taxation, finance, taxpayer representation, negotiation, and leadership makes him an important part of Republic Tax Relief’s work assisting individuals and businesses with complex federal and state tax matters.
