If you moved to take a new job in 2017 or before you may have been allowed to claim a deduction for moving expenses. However, this deduction has been repealed from 2018 to 2025
There is an exception for members of the Armed Forces on active duty who due to a military order and incident to a permanent change of station.
Now, if an employer pays for moving expenses of a new employee it will be included on the W-2 as additional compensation. It will also allow for the employer to use as a deduction.
Additionally, expenses related to a job search, in years past, were allowed as an itemized deduction subject to a 2% of AGI subtraction. This deduction has been repealed.
